Spring is (just about) here – well we think it’s here and then it pops off again!  Here at Bell and Blue we think it’s the happiest of all of the seasons.  I mean who can’t be cheery seeing bright yellow daffodils and smelling cut grass.   Whilst happiness seems to be in abundance outside, we thought we’d turn our attention to our homes.  Can you make your home happy and if so, how?

Colour plays such an important role in how you are feeling.  Each colour has effects on your mood and so it is important to use the right colours.  Blue is good for a bedroom, it has a restful calming effect as it is thought to lower blood pressure and your heart rate.  Red is good for a dining room, as it has the opposite effect.  It is also thought to promote conversation – good for over the dining table.  Orange is thought to be uplifting and promote happiness.  While an all out orange room may be a little OTT, some orange accents would pep your home up a treat!

Lighting is also another important factor.  Natural light is known to boost your mood, so make sure that you get as much natural sunlight in to your home as you possibly can.  Halogen lights where needed are good as they mimic natural sunlight.  But for evening time, when you want to curl up and be cosy, a dimmer switch and lamps are the answer to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Go green and fill your home with flora and fauna!  Plants are known to have purifying qualities, magically turning carbon dioxide in to oxygen!  Spider plants are fab for a kitchen for this very reason.  Elsewhere a cool palm will look fantastic!

Whilst you might not practice Feng Shui  everywhere in your home, there are a few ways you can help keep your home happy.  Spend just  3 minutes when you leave a room, just to straighten it up.  If you don’t get it all done, then just do it again next time you go back.  That way it can be done in little bite sized chunks and hopefully in time there will be less to do!

But above all, stop waiting for Friday, for summer, for someone to fall in love with you, for life.  Happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for it and make the most of the moment you are in now!
